2011 Snowboard Selection
Snowcentre has an amazing range of snowboards on offer this season. We have something for every snow shredder, from $499 beginner packages to extreme high-end “performance enhancing” products.
Rocker
This year snowboard technology has continued to evolve on the never-ending search for sliding perfection. In 2010 snowboards with “rocker” were huge and the 2011 season brings even more variety. Camber is the tried and tested design found on traditional styles of snowboards – best for high speed carving, racing and pipe as it offers superior edge hold. Rocker is the reverse of camber and is distinguished by the convex base of the board. The tip and tails are raised up from the snow offering greater float in powder, smooth edge transitions on trail and a much more forgiving ride in the park. Rocker boards are popular with beginners or riders who want extra float in powder and like to butter and jib all over the mountain.
Each brand has different styles of reverse camber boards with varying amounts of rocker. “Gullwing”, “Chilli-dog”, “Bananatech”, “Flying-V”, “Flat line”, “Wingtips” – are you confused yet? The team at Snowcentre can demystify the differences between jib rocker, powder rocker, all mountain freestyle rocker, zero camber and traditional camber boards. After determining where you are at and where you want to go with your riding, we can select several boards that will suit your needs.
Boots and Bindings
Snowboarding is never fun if your feet are aching, so we have an excellent range of boots to fit every shape and size of foot. Snowcentre is stocking Salomon, Burton, Nitro, Vans, K2 and Northwave boots this season and we pride ourselves on our boot fitting expertise. If your boots are falling to pieces, have gained the ability to talk from the gaping hole in the toe, or are simply too small and are cramping your style, it’s time to treat your feet to some new boots.
EST and the Channel system from Burton have been the big talking point in bindings over the last two years. Burton’s 3 hole diamond system has been replaced on most of their boards by “the channel”. Bindings are now attached to the board with two screws located on the outside of the binding, rather than under the feet. The rider benefits from this technology with superior flex and feel as there is no constricting plastic under the foot.
