Base layer is the key ingredient to maintaining body temperature at a constant level. Skiing and riding uses a lot of energy and creates body heat. This heat, if not controlled, results in excessive sweat, which can cool very quickly once we stop and rest. Base layer developments have resulted in the creation of new materials that help control heat and moisture release, improving warmth and comfort on the mountain. This year Snowcentre is offering a much wider range to ensure we can meet everybody’s base layer requirements.

Merino – This year we have two Merino ranges, Icebreaker and Smartwool. With the explosion of Merino based brands and the demand for base layer products, we have added a second brand—Smartwool—to complement and extend the world leading Icebreaker range. Smartwool offers a different look and looser fit for customers that prefer this style.

Surfanic – A new value base layer brand that looks great. A real step up from the old faithful striped poly, Surfanic base layer at $49, provides excellent body temperature control at an affordable price. 100% polyester, quick drying, breathable and its machine washable!

Polypropylene – Everwarm. Tried and trusted by many, there are striped and navy combinations available. Hardwearing and warm - Everwarm remains a family favourite.

Compression - Skins. You have seen all the big sports stars wearing them - Now we have snow use skins available for purchase at Snowcentre. Seams are anatomically positioned to work as anchor points along your muscle groups. This focuses power and reduces vibration. With gradient compression that gets more oxygen to your working muscles, these are a must have for the serious snow athlete.

Soy – The perfect alternative for people who don’t want wool or polypropylene next to their skin. Soy is a renewable resource with naturally inherent performance properties that allow it to breathe, move moisture and resist odour. The fabric provides a soft thermal layer and the naturally occurring amino acids draw blood towards the skin. It also possesses anti-bacterial properties.
